Boxing Qualification for Tokyo 2020 Begins in Dakar, Senegal Live on Olympic Channel

MADRID – Boxing’s road to Tokyo beings this week in Dakar, Senegal with the first of five Boxing Qualification Events for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. Taking place from 20 to 29 February at the Dakar Arena in Diamniadio, Senegal, the African Qualifying Event features 221 boxers representing 39 countries from the African continent competing in 13 events for 33 Olympic quota places at Tokyo 2020.

Fans can watch the action “ringside” on the Olympic Channel including all women’s and men’s bouts across all weight categories with commentary in English and French. Coverage will be available in all territories worldwide at olympicchannel.com and its apps for mobile and connected TV devices. (No TV or cable subscription is required to watch online.)

Live streaming coverage on the Olympic Channel beings on 20 February at 16:00 GMT (local time). Providing commentary in English will be Ronald McIntosh alongside analyst Alex Arthur for Ring A, and Rory Jiwani alongside analyst Tom Kirkland for Ring B. Providing commentary in French will be Jerome Pourrut alongside analyst Christophe Tiozzo for Ring A and Christophe Roux calling Ring B.

Athletes to watch in Dakar include 2019 African Games gold medallists Khouloud Hlimi Ep Moulahi (57kg) from Tunisia (won in the 60kg category), Bolanle Temitope Shogbamu (69kg) from Nigeria, Khadija Mardi (75kg) from Morocco, Keamogetse Sadie Kenosi (57kg) from Botswana and Roumaysa Boualam (51kg) from Algeria in the women’s tournament.

On the men’s side, 2019 African Games gold medallists Merven Clair (69kg) from Mauritius, Rajab Otukile Mahommed (52kg) from Botswana, Abdelrahman Abdelhafid Benchabla (91kg) from Algeria, Yousry Rezk Mostafa Hafez (+91kg) and Salah Orabi Abdelgawwad (81kg) from Egypt, and Abdelhaq Nadir (63kg) and Mohamed Hamout (57kg) from Morocco are scheduled to compete for qualification spots.
