Open Category Finals Set for 11-15 June in Helsingborg, Sweden
MADRID – Starting tomorrow, the Olympic Channel presents LIVE streaming coverage of the 2019 World Classic Powerlifting Championships. Coverage of the finals of the Open category will be available worldwide at olympicchannel.com, its mobile apps and connected TV devices.
The 2019 World Classic Powerlifting Championships are currently underway in Helsingborg, Sweden and takes place from 3 to 15 June. Olympic Channel LIVE streaming coverage of the Open category begins Tuesday, 11 June at 9:00 (CEST) and continues through Saturday, 15 June, the final day of the event.
Athletes from over 100 countries are participating in the event which is divided by age groups and weight categories. Weight categories begin with the under 47kg women’s class and end in the men’s over 120kg class. Unlike Olympic weightlifting, competitive powerlifting is a sport of strength where athletes compete in three specific disciplines: squat, bench press and deadlift. The total weight of each athlete’s best lift in each one of the three disciplines determines the winner.
Competitors to watch include are Ray Williams (USA), one of the biggest names in the sport in the over 120kg category, and Fedosienko Sergey (RUS), the top-ranked athlete in 2018 in the under 59kg category on the men’s side, and eleven-time under 63kg World Powerlifting Champion Jennifer Thompson (USA), and defending champions Ana Castellain (BRA) in the under 72kg category and Bonica Brown (USA) in the over 84kg category on the women’s side.
Offering year-round coverage of Olympic sports and elite athletes in their quest for success, the Olympic Channel over-the-top (OTT) service is available worldwide at olympicchannel.com, its mobile apps and on connected TV devices.
