MADRID – The Olympic Channel global digital platform will provide LIVE online coverage of the 2019 World Open Powerlifting Championships taking place from 18 to 23 November 2019 in Dubai. Coverage of the International Powerlifting Federation’s (IPF) premier event will be available worldwide at olympicchannel.com and its apps for mobile.
Competitive powerlifting is a sport of strength where athletes compete in three specific disciplines: squat, bench press and deadlift. The total weight of each athlete’s best lift in each one of the three disciplines determines the winner.
Approximately 249 athletes will participate in this year’s championship event including 155 men and 94 women. Lifters to watch in Dubai include Blaine Sumner (USA), an IPF World Champion in the over 120kg category and holder of the most Open World records in powerlifting, and Sergey Fedosienko (RUS), who holds thirteen World Open titles in the under 59kg category, on the men’s side. In the women’s category, nine-time World Open Powerlifting Champion in the under 52kg category Natalia Salnikova (RUS) and eight-time World Open titleholder in the under 63Kg category Larysa Soloviova (UKR) highlight the competition.
