The Olympic Channel is seeking to fill a permanent position as Services Operations Manager to take responsibility of 24/7 teams in charge of Content and Digital Operations, within the OCS Technical department.
The Services Operations Manager coordinates all of the Olympic Channel’s broadcast operations activities, is responsible for supervising the operational staff to run those activities and ensures that all technical services operations are performed at the required quality levels.
Responsible for the technical services operations activities and related staff among the following areas:
Master Control Area including Ingest and Playout.
Organizes shifts based on workload, staff’s schedule, ensuring its consistency.
Has got a global view of upcoming events, is involved in the planning of the resources both humans and technical, involved in the operation of any event that OCS is covering.
Supervises the transmission traffic in real time.
Is responsible to coordinate the best practices to re-route transmissions in the event of operational difficulties (unforeseen over-runs, technical problems, satellite channel clashes, etc.).
Responsible of active monitoring of IOC front-end digital properties on a 24/7 bases, making sure consistency amongst all supported devices: different Internet Browsers, mobile devices and TV Apps.
Collaborates closely with Technical Support team reporting faults/modifications on equipment in his/her technical operations areas and coordinates working practices to take any temporary measures necessary to ensure the continuity of the service.
Analysis of network capacity to identify peak periods, meet the occupation guidelines, ensures optimal allocation and use of resources.
Works closely with Programming to identify resources for short-term solutions.
Ensures high quality standards of the service delivery, monitoring and service integrity within the scope of his/her responsibilities.
Project Management: lead projects involving operational workflows as the Olympic Channel’s operational representative; defining scope, planning and following project management standard workflows. This will need to be done always in collaboration with Systems & Support Manager.
Supervises human and technical resources during project phase.
Essential contribution to the definition of general and detailed specifications for the workflows he/she is responsible of operating: ingests, live transmission, video live monitoring, video analytics, front-end monitoring.
Suggests improvements and collaborates proactively to ensure the Operational Service is always in line with business demands and the evolution of technology in their area of responsibility.
Develops working practices for the team he/she is responsible of, making sure they are always updated within the evolution of the systems and procedures.
Reports his/her direct manager about potential difficulties, issues or lack of equipment.
Tracks on daily basis the achievement of the department set KPIs.
Keeps records of data used for transmissions and statistics.
Ensures compliance with the appropriate operational standards when applicable.
Suggests, specifies and evaluates test procedures that would be in place for any operational workflow implementation.
At least 10 years of professional experience in the TV industry.
2-3 years of professional experience as Operations Coordinator.
Experience in Live TV Master Control Room operations.
Experience in supervising people working as a team on shifts.
Fully familiar with broadcast tapeless environments with good understanding of operational activities based on MAM environments.
Fully familiar with Digital Operations, from active monitoring in different Internet Browsers, mobile devices, TVApps, health-checks to best practices to react and minimize faults in the event of operational difficulties.
High standard of education with appropriate qualification in Telecommunications engineering specialized in Broadcast Systems.
Strong background in broadcast related Audio-visual operations.
Good understanding of ESB-MAM concepts applied to TV-Production companies.
Strong competences in defining, analysing, evaluating, configuring and monitoring quality control parameters associated to operational activities around audio-visual and digital delivery tasks.
Good understanding of broadcast standards, especially the compression file universe.
Knowledge in live production A-V broadcast related equipment like A-V Servers, Switchers, Mixers, Routers, Cameras, Monitors, Decks and A-V signal processors.
Experience in common software broadcast systems like Multiuser editorial systems, NCRs, Traffic, Linear/Non-Linear On-Air distribution, Subtitling, Automatic Quality
Control, Transcoding, Graphics, Programmable integration platforms, Content Management Systems, HSM subsystems, Dashboarding & Monitoring workflows.
Good understanding of Digital Operations, from active monitoring, health-checks to best practices to react and minimize faults in the event of operational difficulties.
Demonstrated leadership experience in an operations-oriented broadcast role with abilities to assess workflows needs and execute on operational goals.
Fluent English spoken and written.
Workplace & Environment
Position is based in Madrid, Spain
Available to travel occasionally (10%), if required by immediate Supervisor.
