“Representing your country at the highest level of sport is incredible. In Sochi, I didn’t quite realize how big it was,” said British snowboarder Jamie Nicholls on his status as a two-time Olympian. “I am gaining more and more experience every time, and just looking ahead to the future and the possibilities of other Games after this one, and what I can take-what lessons I learned from these Games-into the next Games. It’s really vital.”
The bobsleigh episode features teams from lesser known countries competing in the sport to historically dominant performers from many different countries including Canada, Germany, Great Britain and the USA. Viewers are taken behind the scenes and onto the track at the Alpensia Sliding Centre in PyeongChang.
Australian brakeman David Mari was emotional when talking about his first Olympic appearance, “It’s something that you work toward for so long that when you get there it is a very special moment. It’s quite amazing. It almost brings you to tears a little bit, you know?”
Akuoma Omeoga, who represented Nigeria as part of the first bobsleigh team from Africa to ever compete in an Olympic Winter Games, summed up her journey this way, “This experience can’t really be put into words.”
Olympic Winter Tales is an Olympic Channel Production, and was filmed over 17 days in February 2018 on location in PyeongChang and Gangneung, South Korea. Post-production was completed at Olympic Channel headquarters in Madrid, Spain.
