Where are Olympic Heroes now? Netherland’s Pieter Van Den Hoogenband and Slovenia’s Tina Maze Featured in Legends Live On

MADRID  The legacies of Dutch swimming legend Pieter Van den Hoogenband and Slovenian snow queen Tina Maze are featured in new episodes of the Olympic Channel original series Legends Live On. Their inspiring stories premiere on Tuesday 12, March on olympicchannel.com, its mobile apps and on selected connected TV devices, and at 21:00 and 21:30 CET, respectively, on Eurosport.

Beyond the spotlight of the Olympic Games where legends are made, the legacy of Olympians live on. In Legends Live On, Olympic heroes show how they are translating their success into careers and inspiring future generations.

Three-time Olympic gold medallist Pieter Van den Hoogenband takes us through his journey from his role in swimming’s “Race of the Century” at Athens 2004 and his retirement following the Beijing Games to how he uses his experience as an athlete to inspire others through sport.

“You don’t get an Olympic gold medal just by delivery, you really have to work hard for it.” said Van den Hoogenband about his athletic career. “I found out that I am more than a swimmer. I was so happy with my career, I was so happy with what I did, but now I have to face other challenges and I’m happy to do that.”

Tina Maze, the most decorated skier in Slovenian history, relives her storied career from her start on skis at the age of three to her retirement following her double gold medal performance at the Olympic Winter Games Sochi 2014.

“I believe that was the highlight of my career. Winning two gold medals and then retiring. I couldn’t have wished for more,” said Maze of her experience at the Sochi Games. “I saw a very big change in Slovenian sports, because of the many flags as I saw after [retiring] that I didn’t see before.”

Following her retirement, Maze completed a degree in Education while staying active in the sport as an advisor to her Team to Amaze ski team. She has also released an autobiography and serves as a commentator for Eurosport.

Future episodes of the current seasons of Legends Live On premiering each month on the Olympic Channel global digital platform and Eurosport include the profiles of weightlifter Mattias Steiner (GER), whose emotional gold medal win in 2008 inspired his career promoting a healthy and active lifestyle; fencer Valentina Vezzali (ITA), a six time gold medallist and politician; and artistic gymnast Svetlana Khorkina (RUS), one of Russia’s most successful gymnasts of all time who is now a driving force at a sports club in Moscow.
